The Door Parable
John 10:1-20, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he that enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the porter opens; and the sheep hear His voice: and He calls His own sheep by name, and leads them out. 4 And when He puts forth His own sheep, He goes before them, and the sheep follow Him: for they know His voice. 5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
6 This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which He spake unto them. 7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the Door of the sheep. 8 All that ever came before Me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the Door: by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. 11 I am the Good Shepherd: the good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. 12 But he that is a hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees: and the wolf catches them, and scatters the sheep. 13 The hireling flee, because he is a hireling, and cares not for the sheep. 14 I am the Good Shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known of Mine. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear My voice; and there shall be one fold, and One shepherd. 17 Therefore does My Father love Me, because I lay down My life, that I might take it again. 18 No man takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of My Father.
19 There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings. 20 And many of them said, He has a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him?
John 10:1 [Guide]
1 If you try to get into heaven any other way than Jesus Christ, you are a thief and a robber; you are trying to go around God to get to God. And trying to get to God without acknowledging what God did for you.
2 When you seek God through Jesus Christ, you and God become one; this is accomplished through the gift of the Holy Ghost.
3 Anyone who does it God’s way will be welcome in heaven; The sheep that are welcome in heaven are the sheep that hear Jesus Christ calling them either directly or through another one of Jesus Christ’s sheep; Jesus will lead you out of whatever dark hole or pit He finds you in when He calls you, and you answer that call. [A “dark hole” or “pit” it’s referring to whatever falsehoods you have been taught growing up in this world.] Jesus will never leave us ignorant of the truth.
4 When God sets up His servants to give them tasks here on earth, God gives them His backing [support]; His servants obey Him and know how to recognize His voice.
5 The people that don’t make it to heaven will run from the teaching of God’s servants; because they don’t know God, God isn’t in their heart.
6 The people were completely void of understanding this parable; picture a deer staring into the headlights.
7 Because they didn’t understand the parable; Jesus begins to explain parts of the parable; He is the Door. [the Door is Savior]
8 Anyone that had come before Jesus Christ saying they had another way to get to heaven or they were the savior, they were thieves and robbers; because they tried to steal God’s inheritance. [Gamaliel spoke of this as well].
9 Salvation is through Jesus Christ, and those that chose Him will find rest.
10 The false religions of this world lead to destruction; they work to steal God’s inheritance. The teachings of Jesus Christ bring life everlasting, and secure God’s inheritance, His sheep will follow.
11 Jesus is going to lay down His life for the sheep scattered throughout the world.
12 God loves His sheep. He will bring salvation through the ultimate sign of love; [laying down your life for another]. Someone that doesn’t own the sheep won’t give their life up for them; Jesus and God are One.
13 False saviors care for themselves, not God’s sheep.
14 Jesus knows His sheep and His sheep know Jesus.
15 God and I are One; God owns the sheep; He will lay down His life for them.
16 The other sheep not of this fold; Jesus is referring to the gentiles. Jesus came for the Gentiles also, and they will hear His voice; there shall be one fold [one religion, Judaism] and one Shepard [one head of the church, Jesus Christ].
17 Jesus will lay His life down and then be resurrected afterward.
18 No man can kill Jesus, but Jesus will give up His life. Jesus has the power to lay it down and resurrect Himself again. Jesus and God are One.
19 They still didn’t understand all of it.
20 What they did understand they didn’t like. And called Him the devil, and crazy saying, “why should we listen to Him?”
John 10:25, Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. 26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of My sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. 29 My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are One. 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.
